Dr. Raichel was born and raised outside of New York City. After completing a Biology degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, she completed a Master’s degree in Anatomy at Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences before continuing on at CSU for her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. As a student she was awarded the J/R Puckett Memorial Scholarship by the CSU faculty to “the most inspirational, loving, & caring student”. After graduating with honors, Dr. Raichel remained at Colorado State University for another year to complete an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery.
After completing her internship, Dr. Raichel worked as an emergency doctor in specialty hospitals in both Boulder, CO and the San Diego area. She brings her experience from some of the country’s top veterinary hospitals to La Jolla and is honored to continue the tradition of excellence at Windan’ Sea Veterinary Clinic.
Dr. Raichel also has a great love for marine mammals. Prior to veterinary school she worked at the New York Aquarium. In veterinary school she spent externship time in veterinary school at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA, the Denver Zoo, on wild dolphin health assessments off the coast of Florida, and with SeaWorld of Orlando. She was taken off her normal student rotations to tend to a newborn sea otter pup, which became her senior Grand Rounds presentation.
In her spare time Dr. Raichel enjoys ocean sports, gardening, theatre, skiing, travel, and cooking. Dr. Raichel’s daughter is a La Jolla High School graduate who is now an MD/PhD student. Charlie the dog and cats Mai and Po allow Dr. Raichel to share their home.
